Mr Georgios (George) Apladas is a lecturer in the Department of Business Administration, at the Technological Educational Institute of Crete. Georgios has a vast amount of experience from the private sector prior to joining TEI Crete in 2008. Mr Apladas has accumulated more than 20 years of experience in the tourism and hospitality sector, working under various roles at certain hotels throughout the island of Crete. Indicatively, Georgios has worked as hotel manager for 3 years prior to his appointment as lecturer at the department of Tourism management (now Department of Business Administration).
Mr Apladas has graduated with an MA degree in Tourism Management from the Greek Open University (2004). His thesis focused on the requirements and procedures that new entrants face in the tourism and hospitality sector these days. Mr Apladas also holds a BA degree on Tourism Management (1992) from TEI Crete.
Mr. Apladas’s expertise and wide knowledge on the tourism sector has manifested in the multiplicity of roles he has served at the department. Georgios is heading students’ vocational training scheme at the department with considerable success. Indicatively, the departmental programme is one of the few student training schemes that have seen an increase in their funding from TEI throughout the years (including the period during the financial crisis). At the same time, Mr Apladas maintains strong ties with the private sector both domestically and overseas. He is heading the departmental ERASMUS collaborative programme, and at the time of writing more than 30 of his students are employed at various hotels worldwide.
